Shell started her journey as a ballet, contemporary and jazz dancer participating in numerous performances and exams. At the age of 14 she made the bold decision to try something new, Hip Hop. She auditioned and was selected to join her first crew Hi-Voltage, where her love for the style truly formed. Ballet shoes no more! The crew introduced her to various styles of Hip Hop including popping, locking, krump, breaking, tutting and wacking. She performed at Hip Hop competitions including Get Krumped, Step Off, Groove, Australian Hip Hop Championships and Looze Control in Melbourne and Sydney.
This experience fired her passion for Hip Hop and encouraged her to audition for crews with different styles to improve her ability. As a Detour Dance Crew member, she won 1st place at Groove, which allowed her to perform at Worlds Supremacy Battlegrounds competing against international crews from New Zealand, Japan and the Philippines. Winning 1st place at Youth-a-Mania gave her the incredible opportunity to perform at an invitation-only event, Choreographers Carnival in Sydney.
With multiple years of performance and competition experience, Shell decided to challenge herself and become a coach. She started coaching Deakin University’s first Hip Hop team, Onyx Dance Crew. Her goal was to improve each student’s technique, musicality, execution and style knowledge whilst ensuring they demonstrated teamwork on stage. In 2015 they placed 1st at AASCF States, placed 1st at Scholastic Nationals in Sydney, placed 2nd at Nationals in Melbourne and won a bid to compete at the prestigious Dance Worlds in Orlando Florida in 2016.
Shell is ecstatic to be a Royals team member and aims to grow dance at the academy. She will share her passion for the style, work hard and support her students in every class. We’re all really looking forward to seeing her coach the next generation of dance superstars.
